Some thoughts:
The top seven seem very clear to me, and are the ones that I would consider most worthy of legitimately competing for the playoff. Cincinnati got Jerome Ford back and decided to care again and it absolutely curb stomped SMU, a very good team. This is a playoff team if it wins out, and Saturday proved that.
Ohio State also proved something by obliterating Michigan State. I’m not ready to say the Buckeyes could beat Georgia, but maybe they could compete?
Alabama proved my point from last week once again by surviving against Arkansas. Bryce Young is very good, but this is not the same team it was last year, and should lose big to the Bulldogs in two weeks.
Michigan, Notre Dame and Oklahoma State all picked up big wins and are playing good football right now. Two control their own destinies with big rivalry games coming up, while the Fighting Irish have one more game to make a statement and then have to hope for some magic.
UTSA man, what a special year. The Roadrunners moved to 11-0 with a tremendous game-winning drive that ended with a muffed snap, then a pass that was tipped, and even after all of that their receiver came down with it in the end zone. What a scene, and what a win over a good UAB team.
Utah should have been ranked on here before playing Oregon, but that massacre of the Ducks will get the Utes to shoot up my rankings immediately. After a slow start, Utah has been excellent down the stretch, and were so clearly the better team on Saturday.
Oregon may have the best win in college football, but the weight that holds after a performance like its last one is slim to none.
Not a whole lot of movement in the bottom section of my Top 25. A lot of teams down there did their jobs and stayed put. Wake Forest, on the other hand, hurt my heart, so I was specifically mean to them.
Fine, I will rank Iowa. FINE.
